JMHS Basketball Team - 2020 Season Information:

I hope that everyone has had an enjoyable weekend. Please find below the current information on our seaon and preseason. Please also understand that everything is subject to change.

Try-Outs. Under the current Virginia High School League (VHSL) plan, basketball try-outs will begin on Monday, Dec. 7. As we get closer to actaully having a season (fingers crossed), we will have a try-out meeting in mid-November with additional details. Everyone is guaranteed three days of try-outs during that week. Expect teams to have rosters of 12 players.

Season. If all goes well we will have a condensed season with approximately 14 regular season games between Dec. 21-Feb. 6 (most likely) and playoffs (TBD) for the varsity. I do not have any information regarding winter break, but in terms of family planning, I would expect that we would play during those two weeks in order to get in all 14 games.

Pre-Season Workouts. As many of you know, teams are currently only allowed to conduct workouts outside with limitations on what we can use in terms of sports equipment. We are currently not running any basketball workouts, but we plan to reassess again in a couple of weeks or if the County allows us to run workouts in the gym. With no outdoor basketball hoops or courts at the school, it is not possible to run our normal per-season Green Day skill workouts. For multisport athletes at Madison, if another sport is holding workouts, I recommend you take part.

Conditioning & Try-Out paperwork. In order to take part in try-outs or any pre-season program you must complete the following paperwork (forms & information can be found at www.warhawksports.org). Once you complete the forms, please email them to: .

VHSL Physical – you must use the VHSL form; do not simply use your doctor’s form.

FCPS Concussion Education – Both you and your parents must complete this program.

Interest Meeting. In mid-October, we will likely hold a virtual interest meeting. Please check back here for more details. However, unless there is new information from the State and/or County, most of the information will be the same as included here.
