James Madison High School Boosters
GO WARHAWKS!
Boosters Home
The Booster Club is comprised of caring parents -- like you -- who volunteer to support James Madison High School (JMHS) athletes. Each team selects a representative who attends the monthly Booster Club meetings, represents their team's interests at the meetings, and provides important information to the team families about upcoming events.
The primary goal of the Booster Club is to raise funds to support JMHS’s 28 athletic teams. The funds that John Lingenfelter (Link), Director of Student Activities (DSA), receives from Fairfax County covers stipends for the coaches, transportation, game officials and facilities , but these funds do not meet all the needs of our teams. Team requirements for uniforms, equipment or capital improvements must come from other sources and the Booster Club takes on this responsibility. The Booster Club currently supplies approximately 50% of the entire athletic budget at JMHS. Coaches submit a request for funds to Link, Director of Student Activities (DSA), who reviews each team’s budget and gives final approval for funding requests. Admission gate fees go directly into the DSA’s budget and are distributed to all teams.
The secondary role of the Booster Club is to provide for capital improvements. Yes, the Booster Club is the group that is responsible for funding the large ticket items that improve our athletic complex and benefit all our teams. For example, in 2006, the Booster Club paid to overhaul the bleacher area for the softball program. A new scoreboard was purchased for the main gym for the basketball teams to use. The most recent and ambitious project was replacing the football field with high-tech, synthetic turf. While most members of the Madison community assume the football field only helps the football team, it actually is used by seven Madison teams and the marching band! Plus the field benefits our physical education classes at JMHS. Even the smaller teams benefit from the Boosters. For example, the nationally ranked dance team receives funds that help pay for costumes and competition fees. Our most current fundraising project is for a new snackbar and bathroom facility.
